Swim Meet Checklist
When should swimmers arrive at the meets?
Home Meet Swimmers’ Dinner – served from 4:30-5
p.m. for Parkview Swim Team members, $2 each.
Home Meet Arrival Time – by 4:30 p.m. for 5:00 warm
ups.
Away Meet Arrival Time – by 5:00 p.m. for 5:30 warm
ups.
IMPORTANT: each swimmer should check in with the coach upon arrival. Also,
no swimmer should leave a meet until the coach confirms the swimmer may leave.
How long does a swim meet last?
Swim meets typically start between 6:00-6:15 p.m. and may last up to four hours. The meets may be shorter this year (2008) with a change in how heats are timed.
The meet has a first and second half. Parent volunteers typically work one
half of a meet. Six & Under swimmer events take place during the first
half. Depending upon your swimmer’s age and scheduled events, you
may not need to stay for the entire swim meet. However, swimmers must check
with
the coach before leaving a swim meet!
Parking
Be prepared to walk a long distance. Many pools, including Woods of Parkview,
have limited facility parking. Parking overflow will be along the neighborhood
streets leading to the pool. ‘No Parking’ signs should
be posted directing vehicles to park on only one side of the street.
This ensures
there is an adequate corridor for emergency vehicles to travel in and
out of the
event, if necessary.
Seating
Bring your own chairs. For home meets, set up chairs on the deck along the
pavilion. Host teams will specify visitor areas for away meets.
Concessions
Most facilities offer concessions. However, pack a cooler for your swimmer
just in case!
Weather Policy – SHOW UP, RAIN OR SHINE!
Swimmers should come to a scheduled swim meet, rain or shine. A swim meet
will not be delayed or canceled due to rain. Spectators should bring an umbrella
or wear a rain jacket. The Head Official will try to get a swim meet in
on
the scheduled day vs. attempting to reschedule.
If inclement weather threatens during a swim meet, the Head Official will
ask swimmers to leave the pool and pool deck, and to seek shelter. Spectators
will also be asked to vacate the pool deck and seek shelter (typically in
your vehicle). During home meets, Parkview Swim Team swimmers in the staging
area
will be escorted back to the pavilion Bullpen area. At an away meet, the
Bullpen and Staging official will define a plan before the meet begins, that
ensures
the safety of our swimmers, which can implemented it if needed. The Head
Official will make the call to resume the swim meet. Delays may range from
15 minutes
to more than an hour.
IMPORTANT:
- During bad weather, your swimmer should never leave the Bullpen without
a parent and without notifying a Bullpen volunteer of the departure.
- Your swimmer should never leave a swim meet unless you have verification
it has been canceled and rescheduled. You can ‘check out’ your
swimmer from the Bullpen and wait out the delay in your vehicle.
